To obtain a New Zealand Private Pilot Licence, you must pass six written theory exams administered by Aspeq on behalf of the CAA. The exams are sat at Aspeq testing centres on a provided computer. The pass mark for all subjects is 70%. All questions are multiple-choice.
The six NZ CAA PPL written exams are sat on computer at an Aspeq testing centre. Each subject is a separate exam, you can sit them individually in any order. Most students study Air Law and Human Factors first as they have the broadest application across all flying. The FRTO (radiotelephony) exam is often sat last and requires specific phraseology knowledge.
The six PPL theory exams must all be passed before you sit your flight test. Failing an exam means waiting to rebook and paying the sitting fee again.
